Tasmania’s new eco accommodation offering has raised the bar, and the floors.
Set amid unspoiled Tasmanian wilderness, Australia’s most sustainable lodges are now open. The Three Capes Lodge Walk is the newest edition to the Great Walks of Australia collection, from the Tasmanian Walking Company. Here, guests can partake in a lengthy walk along the 46km Three Capes Track walk, which is fully guided, and rest easy in contemporary, luxurious sanctuaries.

The Tasmanian Walking company has taken extensive lengths to preserve the ecology of the local environment, and the lodges offer walkers a chance to take in the natural beauty of Tasmania.
So what are some of the eco-friendly features? Built using non-reflective Tasmanian materials, the buildings’ suspended floors make sure minimal ground disturbance occurs, while the roof structures are designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Swedish-designed recycling showers, the first in Australia, have been installed and tank water is in use on site. An innovative off-grid renewable energy system features PV solar panels and Archimedes wind turbines, which are designed to be safe for the local birdlife.

Hungry hikers will be fed and watered well after a day of walking, too. The lodge menus have been designed to harness Tasmania’s flourishing food and drink scenes, starring fine Tasmanian wines and beers, and seasonal dishes showcasing locally sourced ingredients. Walking guides prepare three-course feasts at the end of the walking day, while guests settle on a suitable outdoor perch taking in the magnificent sunset with a glass of local wine. Bookings are now open.
