Cue the movie montage. This is a makeover that's destined to turn heads.

A historic building on the corner of Spencer and Little Collins Streets has been given a fresh new look following its multi-million-dollar refurbishment. The Savoy on Little Collins (formerly the Vibe Savoy Hotel Melbourne), has been given the Woods Bagot design treatment with its new art-deco-inspired interiors.

Having been established as a hotel in 1928, the address has lived many, varied lives – including one as a Police Training Academy in the 1970s. Now, it’s the picture of elegance with a palette of dove grey, blue, white and charcoal, alongside warm timber and brass features.

Woods Bagot senior associate Sarah Alessi said, “The contemporary aesthetic of this design enhances the heritage of the building, while retaining a truth and authenticity relevant to its history. Drawing on elements of the Art Deco period, the space is bold and confident and the design detailing references that of the era.”

Its restaurant has been given a facelift too, and The Alexander Bar, named for the first hotel on this iconic site, will offer a sleek spot for talking shop, or relaxing after work. A comfortable boardroom and spacious ballroom will function as event spaces – in a convenient CBD location.
