Hint: it’s not in the UK.

One of the great perks of travelling through Europe is usually getting a beer for less than what it costs in Australia. Unfortunately, Down Under beer does not come cheap. In August it was announced that Aussies were going to be slugged with another tax rise on beer. You can read all about that here

So, if you’re planning a trip abroad to Europe and plan on consuming pints on the reg then you’ll want to know where you’ll get the most value. Using the online research tool, Numbeo, the Daily Mail were able to determine which cities in Europe were pouring the cheapest pints.

Topping the list was Debrecen, Hungary where you can get about four or five beers for the price of a pint of beer in Australia. The average price of a 0.5-litre draught in Debrecen came in at $1.76 (approx.). Moldova’s Chisinau came in second with a single pint costing around $2.17.

Here is the full list of the least expensive to drink in Europe:

  1. Debrecen, Hungary. Price of an average 0.5-litre draught – 92p ($1.76)
  2. Chisinau, Moldova – £1.13 ($2.17)
  3. Szeged, Hungary – £1.15 ($2.21)
