Here's why falling overboard on a cruise ship is so deadly

Cruise ships are an incredibly popular way to travel. In fact, according to Statista, last year alone saw 20.4 million people jump on a boat to holiday, with the number set to nearly double by 2027(!). But cruising isn’t all fun and games – while there is only a very small percentage of people who fall overboard, there is a very low chance of survival if you do say experts. A 2020 study discovered that overboard incidents (that’s falling, jumping or being thrown) were the leading cause of death among passengers and crew members on cruise ships, accounting for 23 percent of deaths.
