Iconic Sydney heritage hotel InterContinental Sydney will relaunch in September 2022 after an extensive $110million renovation. Among the changes, restorations to the hotel’s historic exterior, a luxury upgrade for all 509 guest rooms and suites, improvements to public spaces and two new bars.

Local architecture studio Woods Bagot is managing the redesign, which aims to honour the heritage building’s original architecture and respectfully integrate new elements. (Pictured: the design of the new Level 32 rooftop bar at InterContinental Sydney.)

Guest rooms will take inspiration from the surrounding landscape, drawing green and blue hues from the adjacent gardens and harbour through picture-frame windows to create an uninterrupted flow.

The extensive renovation will see InterContinental Sydney’s coveted Level 32 rooftop space transformed into a signature bar and outdoor terrace with expansive views of the Sydney skyline. (Pictured: Views from Level 32 rooftop at InterContinental Sydney.)

The hotel has remained open to guests throughout the renovation with limited access to public spaces whilst undergoing its redesign. InterContinental Sydney will relaunch after the completion of renovations in September 2022.
