Emily Gurr knows how to bring style to a room. The Melbourne model is the driving female force behind South Yarra’s hottest new rooftop bar, Beverly, through her role as the venue’s creative director.

“A lot of women are in our design team,” she said. “It was a team effort to hit that overall key brief and it’s been executed beyond expectation.” Gurr, who studied both architecture and fashion, had a specific vision for how the rooftop bar 24 floors above Chapel Street should look.

“Beverly was designed as a nod to Beverly Hills. The persona of the venue is an innate relationship between the masculine and feminine. Our core values are strong, bold and genuine,” she said.

“I love desert modernism (architecture) and LA’s rooftop scenes, so we married those two inspirational touchpoints.”

Local design studio Mitchell and Eades (behind Grill Americano, Loti) bring Beverly’s sunny California dream to life with blushing pink and peach tones, terrazzo tiled floors and stadium-like retractable glass roof shielding all from the elements.

Co-owner Cam Northway opened the glam bar with 270-degree city views with partners Marco Gattino and Lachlan Thompson last month. Chef David Ball spins Cali-inspired eats, such as sashimi, lobster cannoli and woodfire grilled steaks, with cocktails, vintage champagne and luxe wine rounding out the drinks.

Beverly will also host the Melbourne launch party for this year’s American Express delicious. Month Out on May 17.

The month-long AEDMO program runs in Melbourne and regional Victoria in May and includes special dining offers, events and experiences at some of the state’s best restaurants. 

Bar Jayda, Maha, Daughter in Law, The Royal Mail Hotel and Cinder are among the venues participating in this year’s program.
