Free food? Count us in.

Who says there’s no such thing as a free meal? This weekend brunch/lunch is on us. As part of American Express delicious. Month Out a Shop Small Dining Village will be popping up on Campbell Parade, opposite Hall Street, Bondi Beach from 11.30am – 6pm this Sunday, and everyone’s invited.

Open to the public, here you’ll be able to indulge in delicious and free bite-size dishes from some of Sydney’s most-loved cafes and restaurants. During the late morning session (from 11.30am – 2pm) you can get a taste of Israeli-inspired bakery delights from Bondi’s very own Shuk, Taiwanese deep-fried street food from Eastwood’s Hungry Paulie and the signature curry bomb from Surry Hills’ Masala Theory.

From 3.30pm till 6pm you can sample one of the most in demand Thai restaurants in Sydney, Viand. The restaurant’s head chef, Annita Potter, will be plating up snack-size takes on her authentic Thai tapioca dumplings, usually served in her Potts Point restaurant.

But that’s not all. American Express will also be taking over the iconic Hotel Ravesis from 12pm till late on Sunday, April 30. There’ll be live music, immersive experiences, giveaways and, of course, mouth-watering food offerings, including an elevated offer exclusive to card members. 

While public-access events are definitely on the menu this Sunday, a range of local venues will be hosting exclusive ticketed events with limited-edition menus.

Starting off the day, North Bondi Fish is putting on its first-ever brunch. Sip a mimosa while taking in the sea views and an exclusive multi-course breakfast menu ($85pp) that includes Sydney Rock oysters topped with Bloody Mary granita and a citrus cured ocean trout crumpet with spinach, hollandaise and Yarra Valley caviar.

Down the road, Da Orazio will be hosting two long lunch sessions ($120pp) that you don’t want to miss. The produce-driven shared multi-course menu will take diners on a journey, starting with a pizzetta and Campari soda, followed by an autumnal-inspired starter of king prawn wrapped in guanciale served with a porcini jus and smoked potatoes. The wintry dish of cavatelli Pugliesi with oxtail ragu and gremolata is one of Orazio’s childhood favourites. A fillet of roasted cod served with chickpeas and Parmigiano crisps and a drizzle of rosemary oil and to finish, a light, summery lime and raspberry meringue tart.

And to finish off the weekend on a high note, the iconic Icebergs Dining Room and Bar will transform for one night only into a beachside discoteca, channeling the essence of 1970s disco on the Italian Riviera. With the drama of Bondi Beach outside and all-out glamour within, it promises to be a night of free-flowing wine, fancy canapes and ’70s disco beats.

If you can’t make it down to Bondi this weekend, you can still get in on the action. Throughout the whole month of May, Bondi food institutions will be offering diners special menus as part of American Express delicious. Month Out. Local favourite Greek restaurant, Ikaria, will be serving an $85 banquet menu that features its standout dishes like saganaki with honey, lemon and oregano and oven-baked lamb shoulder with labneh.

Promenade Bondi Beach will be putting on a limited edition set menu with a bottomless carafe of any of its house made wines for $84pp. We’ll cheers to that! And if you’re a fan of a good cocktail, Calita Bondi will be pouring classic and jalapeno margaritas paired with half a dozen oysters and ‘fishadillas’ for $99.
