That’s one way to get your daily serve of vegetables.
It’s the latest in trendy craft brews, a French Belgium beer made from 25 percent carrots.
Called Wabbit Saison, the bright orange brew was first created by 4 Hearts Brewing in 2015, as a way to reduce food waste by using wonky, out-of-spec carrots.
Sixty kilos of the root vegetable are used to create the ale, with carrot mash making up 25 percent of the beer’s total ingredients.
Head brewer Kenneth Friend said the easy drinking beer was 3.8% alcohol and done in a French Belgian style. “It has a dry earthy character with slight undertones of carrot.”
The carrot beer can be purchased on tap at the brewery or by the tin at local Ipswich venues. It will also be on offer at the Winter Harvest Festival in Aratula next month. 4 Hearts Brewing hope to sell the tinnies to bottle stores around the country in the near future.
