German brewery creates powdered beer so you can carry a six-pack in your pocket

Powdered beer

You've heard of turning water into wine. Now, a German brewery has turned water into beer.

We all know beer from a tap is the superior way to drink the beloved brew, but for those drinking at home, there will soon be more options than just a bottle or can.

A German brewery has announced the world’s first beer powder. A non-alcoholic version has already been developed with a boozy version just a few months away. It’ll be as easy as making a protein shake, just mix a spoonful of powder with a glass of water and – ta da – in 90 seconds you’ve made magic.

Powdered beer is the brainchild of German brewery Neuzeller Klosterbrauerei. “We want to, in about three months, be ready with everything … and then we are looking for partners, for investors who want to start-up with us,” CEO Stefan Fritsche said.

Fritsche says the lager tastes just like a real beer, but it will have slight variations depending on where in the world you are and the water used.

“We want the complete beer taste. We have the foam, we already have the beer taste. We want to add the carbon dioxide in powder form. We want to add the alcohol in powder form. We can do all that with powder. And, of course, it is absolutely fascinating that we have succeeded. For the first time worldwide.”

He is also pitching it as the world’s ‘greenest beer.’

By just transporting the powder, rather than the combined weight of the bottles and liquid, you’re dramatically decreasing the carbon footprint of exporting beer.

Sustainability and taste? We’ll drink to that.
