This is the only reusable coffee cup you'll need in 2019

The iconic cups of Allpress can now be permanent fixture in your home.

In this current Instagram-obsessed age design is proving paramount to the success of a business. The food scene isn’t immune to this concept, with eateries increasingly focused on getting the most minute of details perfect for social media, from interiors through plates. Perhaps one of the country’s most significant design success stories may be Allpress Espresso, whose humble takeaway coffee cup is somewhat iconic.

Now, the once temporary design, can become a permanent fixture in your home (or handbag) thanks to Allpress launching its first reusable coffee cups. The two new offerings, the Allpress Reusable Cup and the Arita Porcelain Cup 2.0, are all a part of the company’s efforts to reduce its impact on the planet.

Allpress hopes that the new permanent designs will help Australia’s coffee fanatics to reduce the estimated 1040 single-use cups and lids on average thrown each year. The Allpress Reusable Cup is the cheaper of the two, but slightly less permanent. The coffee house has recreated its iconic dark brown and tan takeaway option from  PLA – a plant-based bioplastic made from renewable sources. This means this cup is both biodegradable and commercially compostable, and conveniently dishwasher friendly. It typically has a lifespan of about four years, after which time buyers are asked to return their cup to their local Allpress cafe for commercially composting.

Your second option has been dubbed the Artia 2.0. As its name suggests, this design has been plucked straight from the ancient porcelain district in Japan, and created in collaboration between master ceramicist Kazhuhisa Iwanaga-San and Allpress’ design head Rob Lockyear.

“Each Allpress Arita 2.0 is made by hand with its own beautiful, bespoke imperfections – paying homage to the dark brown and tan design Allpress is known for, whilst honouring Arita’s traditions,” explains Allpress of its sleek new cup. “Kazhuhisa Iwanaga-San created over fifty moulds from a hand-shaped form, painstakingly etching the Allpress logo onto each one. The limited-edition porcelain cup holds a regular size of delicious brew, comes with a silicon lid embossed with the Allpress logo, perfect for your desk, at home or on the road.”

Both the Arita 2.0 Porcelain Cup (RRP$38.00) and the Allpress Reusable Cup (RRP $17.00) can be purchased online.
