Two Australian bars have made the cut for The World's 50 Best

Black Pearl, Melbourne

And it's not the first time for either of the drinking dens.

Last night The World’s 50 Best Bars 2017 Awards were announced in London and there were Aussies among them. Notably two of Australia’s favourite bars made the cut – Melbourne’s Black Pearl coming in at number 22, with Sydney’s The Baxter Inn taking out number 45.

Especially reflective of the impressive standard of Australian bars, Black Pearl also received a Legend of the List Award as the drinking spot has appeared in the Top 50 since the ceremony began nine years ago.

Making the cut is no easy feat, The World’s 50 Bars is voted on by an academy of more than 500 members from 55 countries around the world. This year’s ranking comprises bars from 24 cities in 19 countries, which included a total of seven new entries and four re-entries.

As for who took the top prize, that was awarded to the much loved American Bar at London’s Savoy Hotel. The historic cocktail den also claimed the title of Best Bar in Europe. Dandelyan from the Mondrian London followed behind with second place, with its bartender Iain Griffiths also awarded the Bartenders’ Bartender prize.

London swept the stakes as the city with the most bars present in the list, with a total of eight, four of which made the top 10.
