New statistics reveal Australia's favourite drinks and wine isn't one of them.

Like Beyonce and Jay Z, Australians and beer have proven a long-lasting love affair. Now we’ve got the numbers to prove it with ChartsBin once and for all asserting that beer is by far the drink of choice for the nation. 46.5% of the population have named the drink their favourite, in comparison to the 21.7% who chose spirits and the 31.8% who chose wine.

But worldwide, beer hasn’t proven quite so popular. While the Americas and Canada share a similar passion for beer, the most beloved drink category worldwide is spirits. 45% of total recorded alcohol is consumed in the form of spirits, thanks to a preference for the beverage in South-East Asia and the Western Pacific.

Beer sits close but is the drink of choice for only 36% of the world’s population. It’s wine that lags far behind, with the drink the preference of only 8.6% globally. In no great shock, it’s predominantly Europe that holds wine in high esteem.
