Are you a fan of a water filter jug? You’re not alone, and for good reason. Water from the tap is perfectly safe in Australia and decontaminated before it reaches our mouths, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely free from the presence of chlorine, limescale, and more. That’s what water filter jugs are for – these handy kitchen contraptions are focused on finely filtering your water, removing a host of contaminants that can affect the taste and smell of your water, as well as your health.
We’ve gathered six of the best below.

Soma Water Filter Jug Pitcher 2.3L, $74, Appliances Online
Arguably the most stylish water filter jug on the market is this suave option from Soma. The water vessel, which is made from 65% renewable plant-based materials and boasts a white oak handle, wouldn’t be out of place in a health retreat, and filters the likes of chlorine, mercury, copper, and zinc out of your tap water.

AIMEX Water Filter Pitcher, 3.5L, $45, Matt Blatt
There are plenty of extra large jugs on the market too, like this Aimex pitcher. Made from food-grade plastic, with a cartridge that is designed to filter out the chlorine, impurities and any smell in the water, the key focus of this particular jug is to reduce water hardness.

Brita Style XL Blue 3.6L Water Filter Jug with MAXTRA+ Filter Cartridge, $54, Big W
But it’s the Brita brand which is most associated with water filter jugs, a company applauded for its innovative water jug filter technology. This one in particular features ion exchange pearls to reduce metals like lead and copper in the water, as well as an advanced filter change LED indicator, using a traffic light system to remind you when the filter should be replaced (which in this jug’s case is every month, or every 150 litres).

Brita Marella 2.4L Jug Filter, $38, Big W
The Brita family contains an extensive range of filter-focused products, including this slightly smaller Marella jug. This particular pitcher is considered one of the best on the market, and hosts the same MAXTRA+ filter, made of activated carbon from natural coconut shells, which absorb and lock away chlorine and other taste and odour impairing substances, meaning fresher, cleaner water.

ZeroWater 7 Cup Water Filter Jug, $93.75, Amazon
ZeroWater claims to be the one and only filter water jug on that market that can provide you with the equivalent of purified bottled water at home. This is through the use of a five-part filtration system. Don’t quite believe them? There’s a total dissolved solids display incorporated into the pitcher itself so that you can get a good look at your tap water pre- and post-filtering.

BLACK + BLUM EC002 Carafe with Charcoal Filter, $92.68, Amazon
Lean into the power of charcoal with a hand-blown jug carafe from Black + Blum, which embraces an old Japanese tradition of using a charcoal stick to attract and absorb water contaminants. Each piece of charcoal lasts for six months and is sustainably sourced from natural harvested wood, before being heated in a kiln at very high temperatures.
