Four Pillars release 2022 Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin - Spirits + Cocktails

Bloody brilliant.

Out of Bloody Shiraz Gin already? Just four months after Four Pillars launched its much anticipated 2022 release, the distillery has followed up with a single vineyard version.

The second iteration of the Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin combines Yarra Yering Shiraz with a Rare Dry Gin, which has been aged in Yarra Yering red wine barrels for two years.

The Yarra Yering Shiraz is made from super-premium fruit picked from one of the Yarra Valley’s oldest shiraz vineyards – the Yarra Yering Underhill vineyard.

For the 2022 vintage, a wet spring resulted in shiraz cropping low, causing a concentration in flavour. The light crop went on to have a mild, humid summer, resulting in great acid accumulation and an extended hang time, allowing for excellent flavour development.

This year’s tipple is said to be sweeter and more complex than the annual release, with an almost Amaro-like intensity and richness, with dry fruit and gingery characteristics. It’s also around 10%, stronger, racking up an ABV of 41.8% as opposed to the regular Bloody Shiraz Gin, which sits at 37.8%.

The 2022 Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin is now available to purchase for $175 from the Gin Shops at the Four Pillars Distillery in Healesville and the Four Pillars Lab in Surry Hills, as well as online at fourpillarsgin.com.

If you’d like to try before you buy, you’ll be able to sip the new spirit at an exclusive tasting session at Four Pillars Gin Laboratory in Sydney this September.

For one night only, Four Pillars Gin Co-Founder Stu Gregor and Head Distiller Cameron Mackenzie along with winemaker Sarah Crowe from Yarra Yering will host a special tasting event that includes all parts of the 2022 Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin, including the barrel-aged Rare Dry Gin, three wines from Yarra Yering, as well as both Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin vintages. To line the stomach, the special tasting will also include a selection of Made From Gin snacks – definitely leave the car at home for this one.

The Lab Launch: 2022 Bloody Underhill Shiraz Gin will be held on Thursday, September 8 from 6pm – 9pm at the Four Pillars Gin Laboratory at 410 Crown Street in Surry Hills. Limited tickets are available to purchase from eventbrite.
