This genius martini hack will change the way you drink cocktails forever

Martini

Ice magic!

Ice cubes and TikTok go together like Vegemite and toast and while there are plenty of #aesthetic re-stocks featuring rose petals, orange slices, and every other ice cube you can think of – sometimes one hits the mark of practicality, beauty, and downright deliciousness.

Introducing: our new favourite martini garnish, the olive brine cubes.

The account responsible for this so-simple-we’re-mad-we-didn’t-think-of-it-first drinks hack is the appropriately named @cocktails – a veritable haven for inspired tipples. Using a ball silicone ice mould, you just add a pimento-stuffed olive into each pocket, top with olive brine, and freeze.

How to make a martini

Ingredients

  • 15ml extra dry vermouth
  • 75ml good quality gin
  • Green olive or twist of lemon, to garnish

Method

  1. Fill the martini glass with ice and leave to chill. Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Pour the dry vermouth over the ice and use a long handled spoon to stir around the inside edge of the shaker 2-3 times. Strain, discarding any excess vermouth (this leaves a coating of vermouth on the ice).
  3. Pour the gin over the vermouth-coated ice and use the long handle spoon to stir the inside edge (this is to avoid bruising or diluting the gin) of the shaker for a further 2-3 times.
  4. Remove and discard ice from the glass and pour martini into the chilled glass. To garnish, pop two or three olive cubes into your glass and serve.
