Counting down to Christmas has never been so fun.
Putting up the Christmas tree for many marks the start of the festive season. But there’s nothing more dreaded come January when you have to take it back down. Hoping to make that task that little bit easier is the latest gin-crazed invention to sweep the internet – gin-filled baubles.
The company behind the creation, Pickering’s Gin, started working on this year’s supply in December 2016 after their first batch went viral last Christmas. In 2016, the last batch of their 30,000 gin baubles sold out in less than 82 seconds, attracting attention from both UK and American media including Martha Stewart.
The Edinburgh-based company has expanded from nine to fifteen full-time staff, as well as employing an additional nineteen elves to keep up with the 20,000 baubles a day quota needed to ensure that they keep up with demand.
The baubles are available in packs of six, each with a different colour containing 5cl (10ml) of Pickering’s Gin, retailing for $42 in Australia via an international shipping partner.
Lovers of whisky and vodka need not be left with lumps of coal either this year; the Lakes Distillery have announced their own gin, whisky and vodka versions coming out later this month.
