A group of Aussie winegrowers have banded together to create a new wine collective, and it’s backed by acclaimed chef and fourth-generation farmer, Matt Moran.

The Group is a co-op of 100 winegrowers, who share skills, knowledge and expertise to deliver a premium line of wines from Australia’s leading wine regions.

Operating as a collective also supports the livelihood of the growers and ensures the vineyards will thrive well into the future.

“I grew up on the farm and I’ve always had a passion for sourcing great quality produce to create great tasting food,” The Group ambassador Matt Moran said.  “Like paddock-to-plate, Grower Wines by The Group represent an exciting movement in the Australian wine industry. The Group’s collaboration with a grower-owned collective paves the way for the hard-working growers and supports the local, real people behind the label. Establishing these connections is how you create honest, authentic and quality produce – whether its food or wine.”

Each wine in The Group has has a name and bottle design inspired by a collective noun. There’s The Murder, which is named after a group of crows, and The Fever, which references a group of stingrays.

The first release from The Group includes four main varietals. There’s The Shadow Pinot Noir from Adelaide Hills, which reveals delicate and perfumed florals with bright red fruit and cherry on the palate; The Quiver, a McLaren Vale Grenache, filled with cherry blossom aromas and a fresh berry palate; The Fevera blend of Merlot, Mourvèdre and Cabernet from the McLaren Vale that showcases bold dark fruit; and The Murder, a bold yet balanced McLaren Vale Shiraz, that reveals silky dark fruits and excellent length. The Group core wines are priced at $34 each and are available to purchase from Liquorland and First Choice Liquor Market Stores nationally.

A limited-edition McLaren Vale Shiraz, The Siege, is also available. At a price of $70, this special release uses grapes from a biodynamically farmed vineyard, and tastes rich and complex with layers of dark fruit and hints of cocoa and spice.
