Is this the most ostentatious Christmas gift of all time?
The Neiman Marcus gift guide suggestion is pure extravagance, but for those with deep pockets and a penchant for seriously spoiling loved ones there may be nowhere better to turn for advice. The American department store may have outdone itself this year, with the arrival of a particularly outlandish option for a Christmas gift.
Namely a trip for four to the Champagne region. There you will finish a custom cuvée and have 60 bottles of Armand de Brignac delivered to your home to enjoy until your personalised cuvée arrives. All for an impressive $US150,000 price tag.
The guide describes the present as the gift “for the bubbliest personality you know.” It’s a part of Neiman Marcus’ annual Fantasy Gifts collection, the self-described 2017 wish list of the world’s most imaginative gifts.
The trip begins with a first-class trip for four to Paris and a stay at Rosewood’s Hôtel de Crillon with a 12-course dinner at L’Ecrin. The next day you will travel (by private car of course) to the vineyards of Armand de Brignac to meet the 13th-generation family behind the wine. A visit to the private cellar, a sample of the reserves, a vineyard visit and cuvée creation will be a part of the trip. And to finish things off (for the day anyway) a helicopter flight over Champagne’s villages and vineyards.
That night you’ll settle into chateau Domaine Les Crayères, with a dinner at the three-Michelin-star L’Assiette Champenoise. That’s before a return to Paris for another day and night of exploration.
You will take home with you 12 bottles of each of the five Armand de Brignac champagnes until your bespoke bottles are ready. These will be 24 bottles of personally finished cuvée in wooden lacquered gift boxes, hand-finished with the application of French pewter labels and inscribed with a name or message of your choice.
While $US150,000 is a hefty sum, proceeds will be donated to charity Pencils of Promise, providing educational opportunities for children in the developing world.
