The Josef Chromy Vineyard offers a wide range of experiences for the wine tourist that go beyond tastings – ‘A Ride Through the Vines’, golf trips and fishing lessons. But they still take wine education very seriously and offer tours of the winery to teach the winemaking process. The cellar door is located in the estate’s original homestead. The southernmost winery in Australia is situated on one of Tasmania’s most remote and visually stunning islands, accessible by car ferry from Kettering. The food on offer ranges from cheese platters to a full menu, showcasing Bruny’s incredible array of fresh seafood and locally farmed meat. MONA, David Walsh’s Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, draws people to this sister winery. The unique architectural structures and world famous exhibitions juxtapose with the rural setting of the museum. Steve Lubiana’s family-owned vineyard at the foothills of the Derwent Valley is mostly dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Osteria serves up seasonal meals, a different menu every day, depending on what is growing in the attached gardens. This vineyard is only open weekdays, so plan your trip carefully. It’s worth taking an extra day off work to taste some of the finest wines in Australia, grown and produced here at Stoney Vineyard.
