The spring clean is well underway for Elderton Wines, the five-star vineyard settled in the Barossa Valley that has just unveiled a major overhaul of its 72-acre grounds. Co-directors of the distinguished, family owned Barossa Valley winery Elderton Wines Cameron and Allister Ashmead have just announced the official opening of the new Elderton Wines Cellar Door.

The new Cellar Door is housed in the restored original Ashmead homestead in the brand’s Nuriootpa vineyard. It’s a Gentleman’s bungalow that dates back to the First World War. The Cellar Door itself houses a swimming pool, a tennis court, lawns for croquet and petanque, indoor and outdoor dining areas, private tasting rooms, a small gallery, end a helipad. But perhaps most impressively there is also a 1500 glass bottle cellar that displays every Elderton vintage since the inaugural in 1982, alongside some of the family’s favourite wines from the rest of the world.

Behind the Cellar Door revamp is the entire Ashmead family – co-directors Cameron and Allister Ashmead collaborated with co-founder Lorraine Ashmead, who began the vineyard with her husband Neil in 1979 when 72 acres of vines were thrown in as a bonus gift with the purchase of the home.

The new Elderton Wines Cellar Door is open to the public from 11am to 3pm daily, hosting wine tastings and food pairings, which celebrate the bounty of local producers.

Over tastings visitors will be able to try for themselves one of the many wines the vineyard produces – which include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Chardonnay. These are all produced under the strict long-term sustainability guidelines on which the vineyard prides itself.
