Onion ice cream? We are screaming!
It’s Superstars Week in the MasterChef kitchen and tonight’s special guest is Clare Smyth, who is dialling in from the UK.
Except, no one in the kitchen knows who Clare Smyth is, but everyone smiles and waves politely. There’s a few non-committal “woos”.
Clare is, of course, the three Michelin-starred chef behind London restaurant Core, she even has her own Wikipedia page (not that we checked).
Not ONE of those people knows who Claire Smith is. What a heinous lie, Aaron. #MasterChefAU

Clare lifts the lid on her cloche, revealing a very pretty dish of butter-poached scampi with wasabi, peas and rose geranium that has inspired tonight’s choice of mystery box ingredients. Yes, we’ve certainly come a long way since last night’s mac ‘n’ cheese challenge.
The contestants have 75 minutes to create a dish using one or more of the ingredients that Clare has chosen.

Brent says he’ll be making a dessert using the lemon, brandy and… “what are those again, bro?” He’s forgotten the name for rose geranium, and fair enough, it’s not like you can buy it from Coles. Yet, for some reason, Andy finds this hilarious. “You are really and truly out of your comfort zone, I mean, making a dessert using something that you don’t even know what it’s called,” he says, cracking up. And this from a guy who eats mac ‘n’ cheese with tomato sauce.
Depinder has decided to make a wasabi ice cream. “It hasn’t been done too much before,” she says in a confused way, like she cannot understand why.
Why is no one making a scampi ice cream? Seems like a wasted opportunity 😂 #Masterchefau

Not to be outdone, Therese announces she’s making caramelised onion ice cream, and we’re interested to see who can ruin ice cream the most.
But it’s not the most terrifying dish in the kitchen today, Aaron is making lasagne without the cheese.
“Giving a representation of cheese” is the most disappointing phrase spoken this year #MasterChefAU

Over at Conor’s bench, he announces “I don’t want to make just another scampi sauce or pasta,” so instead he’s making ice cream, just like everyone else.
Peter has decided to make a tomato tartare with grilled scampi, and coincidentally, I am also having tomato tartare with my lunch today.
“Tomato tartare”? So… diced tomatoes, right? #MasterChefAU

All the while, Clare just stands there completely still, smiling awkwardly. Can someone please get the woman a chair.
It comes time to taste and it’s home run after home run, as judges praise each dish as the best they’ve ever had. Jock brings out the word ‘belter’ and belts us with it over and over again. He goes from hating wasabi ice cream to loving wasabi ice cream. Even the onion ice cream is good, which we find hard to believe.

It’s hard to pick who the top five will be, considering everyone scored a ten out of ten. The judges announce five names at random, which include Conor, Linda, Aaron, Pete and Depinder.
Join them on Thursday night as they compete for immunity in a special challenge set by Heston Blumenthal.
