Now that you've perfected your sourdough, it's time to make jam.
We have some very sweet news to share. A tsunami of strawberries from the Sunshine State is expected to hit Australian supermarkets later this week, with numbers up 30% due to perfect growing conditions.
According to Queensland Strawberries President, Adrian Schultz: “Warm, dry sunny days and cool nights have created perfect growing conditions which means that shoppers will soon be able to grab a few punnets of strawberries on every shop”.
Prices are expected to be lower than usual to help move all the fresh, ripe fruit.
“The price for fresh produce is largely driven by supply and demand, and we know just how much people love their winter strawberries so as they become even more affordable, we know they will get snapped up.”
It’s good news for strawberry growers, who have suffered through several bad seasons of late, thanks to the drought, the needle tampering scandal, and now Covid-19.
Not that you need another reason to pick up a few cheap punnets, but a single serving of strawberries has been shown to contain 150% of your daily nutritional requirements of vitamin C, which can help keep your immune system strong during flu season.
The Queensland winter strawberry season is officially in full swing and will run until October. For inspiration on what to do with that strawberry stockpile, here are 45 recipes to get you started.
