Penguin, the UK equivalent of the Tim Tam, has hit Australian shores

Penguin.

Bring it on.

Not since Ritz stepped onto Jatz territory have we seen such rivalry in the biscuit aisle. From today, you can now get your hands on Penguin, the British equivalent of the Tim Tam.

The biscuit in question is almost indistinguishable from our own, made from chocolate biscuit slabs sandwiched with chocolate cream and coated in milk chocolate. Sounds familiar, right?

According to the company behind Penguin, theirs has more crunch. But of course, they would say that, wouldn’t they?

Penguin is also a larger biscuit, and because of that, one is not able to perform the sacred Aussie ritual of the Tim Tam slam. Deduct 10 points from Penguin.

Turns out, the McVitie’s Penguin was in fact invented some 31 years before the Tim Tam, but let’s not get bogged down in details here.

In June this year, Boris Johnson floated the idea of a trade deal between the UK and Australia, which would see cheaper tariffs between the two nations. “Just think of the potential that we have, I want a world in which we send you Marmite, you send us Vegemite, we send you Penguins and you send us these wonderful Arnott’s Tim Tams,” Boris said. Looks like he got his wish.

Penguin bars are now available to purchase for $2.80 per packet from Coles supermarkets.
