Taiwan proves once and for all that its 7-Elevens are better than ours

Forget sauso rolls, these sophisticated servos sell barista-made coffee and tap beer.

While most of us are pretty grateful for our local 7-Eleven and its $1 coffees, it’s not hard to feel a little envious of the servo situation in Taiwan.

A number of new photos have emerged from 7-Elevens in Taiwan that reveal a certain injustice in the world of late-night snacks.

If you thought we were lucky to have a microwave for our pies, just know that many Taiwanese 7-Elevens have an in-house cafe with a barista and a bar with beer on tap. Some even have fancy chandeliered dining rooms and wifi – that’s right – they don’t scoff their sausage rolls in the car park.

Most Taiwanese 7-Elevens also offer restaurant-inspired meals (albeit microwaved ones) and a self-serve bakery, stocked with pick-and-mix cakes, doughnuts and pastries. Many also sell groceries and household items and even include kiosks where you can pay your bills and parking tickets.

While you wouldn’t necessarily think of snapping a selfie at your local servo, the ones in Taiwan are often decked out in pastel shades with cutesy furniture, which is why they’re commonly used as Instagram backdrops.

So there you have it. Sorry if we’ve ruined that Mrs Mac’s pie for you.
