Eat Out

The team from Bistecca is opening a new steakhouse in the city

This time around, the star steak will be the sirloin.

Fast food, but make it fine dining. That’s the concept at Liquid & Larder’s newest establishment Alfie’s, set to open on Bligh Street in September. The group has already brought us Sydney favourites Bistecca, the Gidley and the Rover, perfecting the slow dining and elevated steakhouse experience – Alfie’s will go off-script and offer the same high-quality eats in a fast-paced fashion.

Bistecca and the Gidley, which are renowned for serving just one cut of steak – the t-bone and rib eye respectively – have set the tone, with Alfie’s to hero the sirloin from the Riverine region of NSW using the same short loin that is used at Bistecca. Along with a few classic steakhouse sides and a vibrant wine list, this means that the menu, service, and cooking will be short and snappy, with the whole operation down to an efficient and speedy fine art.

When guests arrive they will be able to immediately order a steak, sides and a cracking glass (or two) of wine from the extensive drinks list curated by group sommelier Kyle Poole (ex-Orana). Trust us, this will be the spot for a quick power lunch or a speedy pitstop before a night out.

By keeping things lively and swift, Alfie’s will also be offering a cost-effective alternative to the group’s other venues without losing the razzle dazzle. On the decision to flip the steakhouse on its head, Liquid & Larder co-founder and director James Bradey said, “Alfie’s won’t compromise on quality, it will just be served at pace and we’ll have everything down to a fine art. The moment you sit down you can order and your steak will be on the table in 15 minutes. Expect amazing steak without the pomp and a space that’s full of life without a chesterfield in sight.”

There will also be an on-site butchery and space for dry-ageing steaks in the venue which has been designed by Tom Mark Henry (Hotel Morris) to reflect a pared-back setting strongly influenced by London’s East End.

Alfie’s will open at 4-6 Bligh Street, Sydney in September 2023.
