Calling all social butterflies.

A hot new nightspot has opened in the city, just in time for party season.

The Caterpillar Club is the latest venue from Swillhouse, the hospitality group behind Le Foote, Restaurant Hubert and Alberto’s Lounge.

Head underground to this slick new subterranean lounge on King Street, which has been decked out in red, with candlelit booths and Parisian-style cafe tables.

The basement bar and restaurant is licensed until 5am (with plans to push til at least 4am nightly) and boasts over 10,000 vinyl records which a house DJ will be spinning every night until the live music starts.  The main event will be live bands and entertainment, which will lift the tempo with jazz and funk grooves.

As for the food, a few highlights include a crab and avocado cocktail, dry-aged beef burgers served rare, tuna melt sandwiches, spinach and cheese hand pies, and a dessert of layered ice cream, delightfully called the knickerbocker glory.

Expect classics on the cocktail front, with a negroni, americano and pina colada on the drinks list, plus zombie cocktails on tap.  For 90s fans, there’s a lychee martini.

For something completely different, a secret Tiki bar at the back called The Bamboo Room offers a change of atmosphere, with thatched walls, tropical vibes and colourful, fruity drinks.

More to come.
