The waterfront neighbourhood of Kirra in Coolangatta has had a Miami-style makeover with the launch of its new open-air bar, Kirra Beach House.

The beachfront venue is located just a few sandy footsteps from one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic surf breaks.

Locals have been waiting patiently for the high-profile launch, which is located within the Kirra Point Precinct, a multi-million dollar development by the KTQ Group that includes the newly reopened Kirra Beach Hotel, with a luxury resort hotel and a bespoke retail laneway still to open.

Its location on Kirra Beach makes it the perfect place for a sundowner with plenty of tropical-inspired tipples to choose from, including the Hawaiian pineapple negroni and lychee martini. A slushie machine behind the bar churns out icy delights from frozen pina colada to ice-cold strawberry daiquiris.

The spacious beach club has two indoor bars and a breezy outdoor bar, where you can sip in the sun or kick back underneath one of three ocean-facing cabanas. Each cabana can hold up to 35 guests, and yes, they can be reserved for group bookings.

Bar-goers can expect Miami beach club vibes, with speckled terrazzo floors, sleek stone fixtures, tropical palms, and glossy tiled tables.

The venue also has a private wedding event space, with access to a wraparound terrace, private bar and ocean views, with seating for up to 120 guests.

The project is owned by local restaurateur Dave Galvin, who also runs nearby diners kōst, Mozza Mozza and Crafty’s.

The Mediterranean menu offers up more than just the usual snacks, with rib-eye steaks and roast chicken cooked on an outdoor grill, plus beautifully blistered pizzas strewn with zucchini blossom and stracciatella, or pear and gorgonzola.

Wholesome bowls filled with pickled and raw vegetables, topped with chargrilled prawns, pine nut crumb and creamy green goodness dressing are perfect for the sunny Gold Coast lifestyle.

For something splashier, there’s the chilled seafood platter which comes stocked with rock oysters, kingfish ceviche, bug tail, spanner crab remoulade, king prawns, plus dressings and sauces. Snacks like smoked ham croquettes and fried calamari are perfect for soaking up the cocktails, and promise to keep you dancing to the DJ well into the night.
