Buckwheat crêpes are the new canine cuisine du jour at this dog-friendly cafe, that also has its own off-leash recreation room.
A basic truth every dog owner knows is that cafes are chosen based on how welcome their pets are. The coffee is so-so, but they serve a puppaccino that Fido slurps up in seconds? That wins out over the hipster joint that does a mean macchiato but sneers at four-legged customers.
Luckily, Melbournians don’t have to make that choice.
Chez Misty is the kind of place that caters to dogs as much as their owners.
These guys do more than just serve up liver-ladden puppaccinos. Think gluten-free crêpes and galettes made from organic buckwheat flour that are cooked in coconut oil. Fillings include liver, turkey mince, fish, ricotta and peanut butter.
To drink, there’s the Mistyccino with kefir, yoghurt and berries or the Buddyccino with kefir, yoghurt, banana and peanut butter.
It helps that the menu is written by co-owner Cherry, who has worked as a dog nutritionist. And her partner, Marc, is a dog trainer.

The café also includes an off-leash indoor playroom and a backyard where pooches are encouraged to relax on couches while owners laze about sipping a coffee and reading the newspaper. The idea is that the pair of you can make yourselves as comfortable as you would at home – but with café perks.
Seeing as dogs are Marc’s business, you can also book him for training and behavioural consultations. Dog walking services are available and a showroom stocks stylish canine apparel and dog cosmetics.
Events include puppy socialisation and daschund nights, but we love the sound of Paddle and Brunch. You and Rover get a one-hour SUP Paddleboard lesson with SUPsforPUPs (including doggy life jacket) and breakfast for you and your pooch, for $89.
If you don’t have a dog, but you’re the kind of person that has a chat to everyone in the dog park in the hope they’ll offer you a pat of their pet, then Chez Misty is also the place for you.
