Inner West wholefoods cafe and yoga studio, Egg Of The Universe, or ‘The Egg’ as it is affectionately known, has rolled into town, launching a second venue within Yerrabingin House in South Eveleigh.

Run by husband-and-wife team Harry and Bryony Lancaster, the new clean-eating café brings fresh, nourishing nosh to an inner-city area known for its gut-busting brunches.

It may be a wholefoods café but that doesn’t mean bacon and eggs are off the menu. The traditional big breakfast has been given a spring clean, with inclusions like organic poached eggs with nitrate-free bacon, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, kale, lacto-fermented sauerkraut and paleo bread.

Pancakes also make an appearance, only this time around, they’re filled with sweet potato and activated organic buckwheat and finished with fresh fruits, cashew cream and a drizzle of maple syrup. Match it with a housemade kombucha or medicinal mushroom hot chocolate (don’t worry, there’s coffee, too).

If you’re short on the sunshine vitamin, you’ll be pleased to see that half the venue’s seating is outside, gently shaded by a 20-metre canopy. Afterward, you’ll be feeling so good you’ll probably want to sign up for a stretch, with two yoga studios onsite.

And while you’re there, don’t forget to check out the 500-square-metre indigenous rooftop garden, which showcases a variety of native and medicinal plant species, including 30 types of bush foods. Clarence Slockee and Christian Hampson who created the garden were recently awarded Outstanding Native Producer in the 2019 Delicious Harvey Norman Produce Awards.

The Egg is also adjacent to the Eveleigh Green park, which is home to a kick-about lawn area, sandpit and playground, where kids (or newly energised adults) can run and play afterwards.
