For serious pastel de nata fans – they’re nata messing around here.
The flaky pastry cup, the sweet, creamy custard filling and the gently scorched tops make Portuguese tarts, or pastel de nata, near-impossible to resist –particularly when those tarts come from the tart aficionados at Lisboa Caffe.
Having begun its cult-followed journey at food business incubator Wandering Cooks and served the people of Brisbane in pop-up fashion for more than 5 years now, Lisboa Caffe has, at last, answered the prayers of Sunshine State residents by announcing it’ll be opening a permanent café and bakery in South Brisbane – on aptly named Hope Street.
Neighbouring the restaurants of Fish Lane and the museums and galleries of the city’s cultural precinct, Lisboa Caffe will give passers-by a glimpse into its processes through its windowed shop front. And there’ll be coffee and freshly baked breads on hand too.
Expect to see the tart expert’s crowd favourites on the menu, including the classic Portuguese custard tart, a Nutella custard tart, its chicken and herb tart, a goats cheese tart, and more.
Lisboa Caffe’s bricks-and-mortar site is slated to open at the end of this month.
