Who needs a house when you can have an avocado pop-up cafe?
It has been more than a year since Bernard Salt first proclaimed that smashed avo on toast was the real reason behind millennials inability to own their own home. And while the housing issue isn’t set to dissipate anytime soon, our love for avocados has only grown more fervently, so much so that Sydney is set to welcome Australia’s first avocado pop-up cafe.
Good Fat by Australian Avocados, which opens in hipster Surry Hills tomorrow, will serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner to punters for one month only. The burning question though is what to expect on the menu? Sydney chef Liam Crawley has created 20 avocado-centric dishes for the pop-up, including a breakfast smoothie served in an avocado skin, avoshcetta, avo bowls and, of course, an AvoConnetto ice cream.
And as a show of goodwill, Bernard Salt will be among the first to dine in the cafe, admitting that our obsession with avocados isn’t going anywhere.
“Smashed avocado may have started as a hipster dish, but it’s elbowed its way into our hearts and infiltrated our culture,” said Mr Salt. “It’s now on the menu at cafés around the nation, from Parliament house to outback Tibooburra, and it’s a dish that Australians have proudly embraced and defend fiercely,” he said.
Good Fat by Australian Avocados opens Nov 2 at 355 Crown St Surry Hills, 7am-9pm Monday to Sunday and 8am-5pm Sundays. goodfatsydney.com
