Shannon Bennett’s burger chain makes its debut

Benny Burger.

Melbourne welcomes the celebrity chef’s new ethical enterprise.

While burger chains may seem a dime-a-dozen at this point in time, chef Shannon Bennett saw that there remained a gap in the market when it came to the fast-food favourite. That is, burgers that were created by ethical means.

Inspired by the burgers created by his dad Benny Bennett and sourced from the local butcher, Shannon decided to launch a burger chain of his own, named in homage to his father. And so Benny Burger was born – a simple concept of delicious food that is good for you, and good for the planet.

Sustainably sourced meat and veg is bundled up between a homemade bun at Benny. There’s a family of farmers providing them with the best of the best in produce for each pattie that celebrates the bounty of edible delights created in the country. “At Benny Burger, our menu boasts Blackmore’s Wagyu, Arcadian Beef from Queensland, Goulburn Valley Eggs, finest fresh fish from the pure water of North Queensland and NT, Gembrook spuds and cheese from Timboon, Vic. Our family of farmers might be the underdogs, but their produce is best, bar none. Eat Benny Burger; for all the fun and flavour of fast food without compromising your health, your country, or your planet,” Benny Burger explains of the clan of producers the business chooses to work with.

The Chang

These ingredients have been used to create 11 different burger offerings, including the tongue-in-cheek The Chang, and The Mystery Burger – which is quite literally a mystery meal accompanied only by the description ‘Dare if you will.’ Of course there are the classics to enjoy including cheeseburger Cheesy Burns, veggie offering the Yoga Burger, and poultry option Cluck Off

The chain made its debut at Sydney Airport’s International City View dining precinct, but Melbourne will be the first Australian city to welcome the stand-alone Benny Burger store, with doors open to the public on Friday June 16. As a part of the grand opening, the venue will be handing out 100 free burgers, offering two-for-one deals and a little entertainment on the side with a live band playing in store.
