Though the Greek seaside restaurant and bar opened just 15 months ago, it joins a rising tide of high end diners to close up shop in the eastern Sydney suburb. Mexican restaurant Fonda and local favourite Drake also closed abruptly in recent months.
Bondi's high-end Greek diner Topikos is closing to make way for a pub and sports bar
Fledgling Bondi hot-spot Topikos Dining Room & Bar has announced it will shutter its doors in September to make way for a pub operated by the Ryan hospitality group.
From one hospitality empire to another
The Ryan family operate other big name pubs like the Orient at the Rocks, the Ship Inn at Circular Quay, and the Covent Garden hotel at Haymarket. Topikos is owned and managed by the Point Hospitality Group whose other venues include CBD rooftop restaurant and bar Shell House, the Dolphin in Surry Hills and soon, the group’s massive hospitality project on Fort Denison in Sydney Harbour, slated to open later this year.
What's taking over?
The plans for the coveted Campbell Parade location is to convert the beautiful and airy space into a traditional pub, complete with a sports bar.
A taste of Nashville is coming to Bondi
As for the Fonda site, Bondi locals won’t have to wait long for a replacement, as Belles Hot Chicken has swooped in to fill the void and plans to be open by summer 2023 after undergoing renovations to bring its 70s-style aesthetic and southern-style chicken and boozy slushies to the beach.
