The food world mourns the loss of another great chef.

American celebrity chef and television host Anthony Bourdain has passed away at age 61.

In a statement released by his network, CNN, Bourdain was found in his hotel room in Paris, where he had been filming an upcoming episode of his much-loved food and travel show, Parts Unknown.

“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague,” CNN said in a statement.

“His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Fellow celebrity chefs, including Gordon Ramsay and Nigella Lawson, have taken to social media to express their sadness.

Best known for his brash and outspoken personality, the chef first saw stardom with the publication of his book Kitchen Confidential in 2000. The New York native then moved into television, working on the Food Network among others before joining CNN in 2013.
