Free entry and more than 30 tastings plates for only $2 a pop? Yes please.
Sunnybank, the multicultural suburb 13km south of Brisbane’s CBD, generally isn’t the first place you’d put on a Queensland holiday itinerary. For city dwellers, it’s known as the best place to go for authentic Asian eats, with a swag of restaurants and kiosks specialising in Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean fare.
The popular $2 food trail is back for summer; but you’ll want to get in quick, with more than 18,000 hungry visitors descending on the suburb for their last event.
Basically, 30 or so vendors offer up mini versions of their most popular dishes, drinks or sweets, for only $2 each.
At the summer trail, treats included everything from freshly made dim sum and pork mince roti wraps, to crunchy sour and hot potato shreds, and kung pao chicken. For the more adventurous, strips of pork ears are tossed with chilli sauce, and roast soup rice made with mock meats.
It’s more quirky than fancy, with roving entertainers and traditional lion dancers, but you’ll almost certainly discover something new, and for only a handful of loose change.
The Sunnybank trail runs from 2pm – 8pm, on Sat, Nov 21.
