Head in for biodynamic drops and oozy baked Camembert.
After an $18 million transformation, boutique hotel Zagame’s House in Carlton has reopened with a burgundy-hued wine bar attached.
The new 50-seater venue will be its own little cellar, with an impressive collection of fine wines lining the walls. Those wanting to sit, swirl and sip, can choose from the thoughtfully curated wine list, which focuses on small producers and biodynamic drops, with organic wine making up over 50 per cent of the menu.
“We’ve made an effort to make our wine list accessible, particularly when it comes to pricing,” says head sommelier and winemaker Marcus Radny.
“Wine can be intimidating, and we want to cater to both the discerning drinker and keen novice, introducing them to new varieties from both local and international producers.”

The kitchen will be headed up by executive chef Chris Bonello (ex-Vue Group) and head chef Michael Tse (ex-Rockpool), who have put together a selection of small plates designed to complement the vinos.
“We have created the Lord Lygon menu to be all about sharing, and celebrating the wine that you’re pairing it with,” says Bonello.
“We are lucky to live in a country abundant with such incredible produce, so it was a no-brainer for us to create dishes where this produce speaks for itself.”

The selection is heavy on the charcuterie and cheeses, and includes an oozy baked Camembert with garlic and thyme, as well as build-your-own cheese and meat boards. If you’re looking to settle in with something more substanial there will also be bistro meals, like Wagyu sirloin and chermoula John Dory.
