You snooze, you lose.
We don’t want to cause a panic but the writing is on the walls – we’re just reading it. Macca’s has followed in the footsteps of major supermarket chains with restrictions on its eggs.
In light of the egg shortage on the horizon, breakfast hours have been temporarily moved back from midday to 10:30am nationwide.
The statement reads, “Like many retailers, we are carefully managing supply of eggs due to the current industry challenges.
“We are working hard with our Aussie farmers and suppliers to return this back to normal as soon as possible.”

The egg shortage is being blamed on an outbreak of avian flu which has led to the culling of around 1 million chickens across 11 farms in Victoria, NSW, and Canberra in recent months.
The cull has prompted warnings of supply chain issues and price hikes for eggs across the east coast. It’s also prompted a strange sense of deja vu seeing the restrictions in place, which extend to a two-carton limit at major supermarkets.
Is there a shortage of eggs in Australia?
Australian Eggs boss Rowan McMonnies acknowledged in an interview with ABC Radio that there could be some supply chain issues as a result of the mass culls, however, he was quick to explain that delays do not mean shortages. “If you want eggs, you will get them.”
“You may not be able to get eggs every time you usually do, but there’s still going to be a lot of eggs available over winter.”
