We’ve found the perfect Sydney harbour hideaway

Mosman Rowers Club

And it’s just a ferry ride from the city.

With its promise to “welcome wet bums, sandy feet and paws” Mosman Rowers is the new must-visit harbourside venue for all the family – including Fido.

The 108-year-old club, dangling over the waters of Mosman Bay and just a
minute’s walk from the bay’s ferry terminal, is enjoying a new lease of life under
the management guidance of Bird & Bear Group (operators of The Sandy Bear in Clontarf and The Flying Bear & Foys in Kirribilli). Even bouncing back in a matter of days from a small blaze that broke out in a fireplace just a few weeks after it reopened.

The result is Archie Bear on the lower level offering all-day dining from breakfast through to dinner Thursday to Sunday (7.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Wednesday), while sitting atop Archie Bear is The Rowers Bar.

At Archie Bear, breakfast might see you tuck into house-made maple-baked granola with natural yoghurt, stewed rhubarb and mint; a green breakfast bowl with a quinoa patty, avocado, pea puree, kale, poached eggs and lemon; or a bacon and egg roll with kewpie mayo and hot barbecue sauce in a milk bun.

Lunch and dinner options within the bright, light-filled space include Sydney rock oysters; baby squid with lemon and aioli; and antipasti with prosciutto, burrata, olives and flatbread. Sandwiches and burgers include a Caprese with tomato, buffalo mozzarella and pesto; a Reuben with wagyu pastrami, raclette, sweet spicy pickle, slaw and smoky mustard mayo on rye; and a fish burger with battered barramundi, tartare, pickle, cheese, lettuce and fries. Other options include beer-battered fish and chips and a seafood platter with oysters, prawns, gravlax, grilled salmon, baby squid and battered fish.

The warm and clubby Rowers Bar (open Monday to Friday 4pm to late; Saturday and Sunday noon to late) has its own smaller food offering. Lighter dishes include whipped fish dip and flatbread; rice paper rolls with cucumber, coriander, daikon and water chestnuts; wagyu sliders; and a charcuterie and cheese plate. Those looking for something more substantial will enjoy grilled barramundi with butter bean puree and bean salad or eye fillet with potato gratin and pea puree

Both venues are fully licensed with R!ot Wine Co Rosé on tap, cocktail pitchers, signature seasonal and classic cocktails, Australian and international wines, and a selection of Australian beers on tap.

Says Bird & Bear’s Matthew Murray: “There’s not many places on the Sydney harbour where you can go for a morning paddle and then enjoy a beer in a building steeped in history with cracking water views, and Mosman Rowers is one of them. We’re really proud to have helped give the clubhouse a new lease on life and hope we can extend it for another 100+ years.”
