The Brisbane bar set to rival all others

An exciting new update for Howard Smith Wharves is announced.

The end of November usually marks the last days of spring and the beginning of the summer season. But come November 29 this year, Brisbane will have a new reason to celebrate thanks to the opening of Mr Percival’s.

As the second venue to open in the highly anticipated Howard Smith Wharves project, the overwater bar will showcase the magic of ex-Fish House chef Damien Styles, who behind the pans in the kitchen, will serve aperitivo-style snacks taking form in the likes of fried zucchini fritters, lobster rolls and anchovies with olive oil, lemon and garlic.

“I’m excited to be part of what I see as the most amazing development in the hospitality industry in Brisbane. Being from Brisbane originally, this role is like a homecoming for me as well,” says Styles on the move.

With all of the ingredients sourced locally from Moreton Bay and the East Coast region, the menu will focus on dishes that Styles says are simple, fresh and approachable.

“I’ll be working closely with fishermen and producers to deliver the best quality possible,” he continues.

Adding to the magic in the kitchen are interiors designed by Anna Spiro of Halcyon House fame. Featuring a speakeasy-style octagon shaped bar, the venue is a nod to Europe’s chilled beach clubs where the vibe is set to bring about a sense of a year-long, endless summer.

Beyond the brass-fronted bar, six arched doors open out to the deck area with its sage green walls and salmon pink umbrellas, offering a space for guests to make the most of the waterfront views. Back inside the Brisbane-based designer has worked with a palette inspired by the sun-speckled Mediterranean after a storm with natural timber, pops of blue and yellow, terracotta elements and dirty green hues.

“When designing commercial spaces our approach is always to create environments full of interest, comfort and difference, that people want to linger in,” says Spiro.

“Mr Percival’s will be Brisbane’s own folly—a fun place that nobody will ever want to leave.”

Mr Percival’s is set to open November 29.
