The opening of Neil Perry’s highly anticipated new Double Bay restaurant Song Bird and neighbouring subterranean vinyl bar Bobbie’s has been confirmed in a nail-biting day for the veteran chef and restaurateur, who had to cancel the first planned service.

Both venues were due to open for lunch today, Friday, August 30, however, a last-minute issue with permits left Perry in an impossible position. But good news for excited guests with dinner bookings came through this afternoon, with confirmation the venue will throw open its doors for dinner as planned.

On the verge of the reveal, Perry told delicious. “This has been one of the most challenging, but exciting, openings of my career.

“Thanks to my incredible team, we can’t wait for people to enjoy Linden’s incredible cocktails at our basement bar Bobbie’s and the best produce, cooking, drink-making, wine and food service at Song Bird.”

Bobbie’s is Perry’s dedicated cocktail lounge that pays tribute to Australian DJ Bob Rogers OAM, who is credited with introducing top 40 hits to Australian radio in the late 1950s. Drinks have been curated by internationally renowned mixologists, Nathalie and Linden Pride. Bob Rogers just so happens to be Linden’s grandfather.

The venue’s first weekend coincides with Father’s Day, one of the busiest days in the restaurant industry, and hundreds have snagged reservations for Song Bird’s Sunday service – the hottest seat in town.

Song Bird and Bobbie’s are located at 24 Bay St, Double Bay. For more details visit the Margaret Family website.
