What's next for the beloved taco shop? We spill the beans.

Chippendale’s favourite Mexican joint Rico’s Tacos has announced it will be shutting up shop this week. Sunday, August 6 will be the last day of service, but all is not lost. An Instagram post announcing the closure has reassuringly told of greener pastures on the horizon, with a new location set for Rico’s.

The post reads: “While we will miss our sunny little corner, greener pastures await. We will soon be announcing details of our new store where we will be back to cooking tacos (and hash browns) for you all.”

Details on the new location are slim at time of writing but sighs of relief are big as we learn we won’t be denied our carne asada, grilled pork neck, or duck mole tacos for long.

Rico’s Tacos started life as Toby Wilson’s roving food carts and pop-up kitchens before trading in the nomad life for permanent digs on Meagher Street in 2022. It was here that the former corner store was transformed into a sun-flooded taqueria with vibrant blues and cartoon bottles of Coke and pineapples painted on the walls.

Rico’s Tacos last service will be on Sunday, August 6 at 15 Meagher Street, Chippendale. For more details, head to: ricostacos.com.au
