The bunfight begins.
With a stack of new burger joints entering the already stretched dining scene, it’s inevitable that others are going to topple. The latest quick-service restaurant to be squeezed out is Benny Burger, a high-end burger chain by Vue de monde restaurateur and MasterChef personality, Shannon Bennett.
Launched in 2017, Benny Burger closed its first store in Richmond in May this year, with one store remaining on Little Collins St. The chain has collapsed with debts of almost $170,000 still outstanding.
The burger chain is known for its ethical burgers made from organic ingredients sourced from local farms.
A statement from Benny Burger’s parent company – the Vue Group – confirmed the news.
“Vue Group has made the commercial decision to exit the Benny Burger brand due to a shift in priorities,” the statement read.
“Vue Group remains focused on providing aspirational guest experiences through its diverse portfolio of venues and is confident the aforementioned change will deliver a stronger platform for growth in the future.
“All staff entitlements have been paid in full. Any amounts owing to suppliers will be settled in full as per the standard payment terms.”
