Is this the rooftop bar Sydney has been waiting for?

Sydney

Old Mate's Place is a green haven with a 2am license.

By late August Sydney will become home to another rooftop bar, with the emergence of Old Mate’s Place. The drinking space comes courtesy of some of Sydney’s top cocktails talent; Gabrielle and Andres Walters, and Daniel Noble who have garnered more than their fair share of experience in the local hospitality scene. Andres Walter spent time at The Lobo Plantation and Kittyhawk, while Noble currently works with Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern.

Now the trio has turned their attention to an offering of their own, and found it in the form of a space on 199 Clarence Street. The group have ownership of both the rooftop, as well as the floor directly below, which will excitingly operate with a 2.00am license. On which they will implant their vision of a greenery-laden space overflowing with plants and clever cocktails to be enjoyed throughout the afternoon and evening. Upstairs maintains a greenhouse-inspired design, while downstairs indoors will integrate a library-style bar to welcome its 40 patrons.

As for the drinks themselves, Old Mate’s will not follow a specific theme. There will be rum, whisky, gin and more, with the real focus on the cocktails available. Drinks will be accompanied by a comprehensive food menu to line the stomach, deli-style sandwiches included.

Old Mate’s Place is expected to open its doors in late August.
