The story isn’t over for Sydney’s World Bar just yet

World Bar

The iconic nightclub has been given a new lease on life.

Sydney club-goers were recently devastated by the news of World Bar’s closure. Despite being a bustling nightlife icon, the club unfortunately faced defeat against local lockout laws, forcing it to call last drinks (and teapots).

Now, the mood has shifted from an emotional farewell to hopeful anticipation, with the institution reopening its doors under a new name and ownership. Hospitality duo Dane Gorrel and Matt Weir have heroically stepped in with plans to refresh the space in a bid to preserve Sydney’s nightclub institutions.

Combined, the two have years of experience in the Sydney bar and club scene, with Weir previously a resident DJ at World Bar and S.A.S.H and Gorrel a manager at Koh in Bali, an underground nightclub with a cult status. The pair have already proven their successful partnership, with the reopening of Club 77 in September and the opening of apera restaurant in Castlecrag.

Renamed ‘Cali Club’ the new space will be fusing much-loved elements of World Bar with new offerings and collaborations designed to attract nightclub novices and seasoned ravers alike. The club will continue the longstanding tradition of ‘The Wall’ each Wednesday night, with themed weekends varying from deep house to hip-hop. An important collaboration with iRock entertainment and Poster Child will ensure a steady stream of Dj’s and performers are on hand.

“Cali Club is fun, young and all about having a great time, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back this week”, says Gorrel.

Nightlife lovers can breathe a sigh of relief, as the duo keeps the candle burning for this Sydney favourite. The new look is set to be unveiled this Wednesday the 12th December with one epic opening party.
