Something to get in a flap about.

When cult US chicken wing chain Wingstop opened its first Australian outpost in Sydney’s Kings Cross earlier this year, the public response was instant – and overwhelming. Huge queues formed outside the store when it opened in May, and even now, you can still find queues here on weekends.

Now a second Aussie store is set to open, and this time, Penrith is the lucky winger… sorry, winner. But other cities and states needn’t feel broody – the chain is planning to open at least 100 stores across Australia in the future.

What is Wingstop?

Wingstop is a popular chicken wing franchise that first opened in Texas, US, in 1994, and now has almost 2000 stores across America. In more recent years the restaurant chain has been expanding internationally, with stores opening in a number of different markets, including the UK, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.

Wingstop specialises in boneless chicken wings and chicken tenders, and comes to Australia at a time when we’re really hitting ‘peak chicken’. Sydney-born Lebanese chicken chain El Jannah is now planning a massive national expansion, chains like Belles Hot Chicken and Chargrill Charlies are building devoted followings, and even McDonald’s has added chicken wings to its permanent menu.

Wingstop Penrith will be opening on Monday, December 15You’ll find the new Wingstop Penrith at 565 High Street, Penrith.
