Bondi’s newest resident La Palma is a pastel and palm covered rum bar that channels the laidback vibes and effortless glamour of Havana in the 1920s. The new venue was inspired by the prohibition era in the United States when Americans would flock to the Carribean for mojitos and daiquiris on the beach.

The interiors channel an old-school Havana hotel with rattan seating, wicker pendant lights and a marble-clad bar. The outdoor area is all palms and banana leaves, providing a relaxed outdoor setting for afternoon drinks.

The menu at La Palma delivers a more traditional Caribbean experience, with home-style dishes like Cubano sandwiches loaded with pork belly and salsa criolla, Jamaican jerk chicken and chargrilled Peruvian skewers. Follow it up with the buñuelos, a deep-fried cinnamon tortilla with roasted pineapple and mango sorbet.

The drinks list ticks off all the Caribbean classics from piña coladas to mojitos, daiquiris, mai tais and more. Bar manager Raphael Redant has also created a few of his own numbers, including a Rice Bubbles, vodka and pandan concoction, and a coconut and Midori Miami splice.
