Grain Bar, located in the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, is launching a new autumn-inspired cocktail and food menu, with a special focus on the concept of foraging. The dishes are adaptable, able to be shared or enjoyed solo, and, much like the new cocktail menu, utilise the best seasonal ingredients around. On the menu you can expect to find the likes of Crispy Milly Hill lamb chops with tempura salt bush, seared Albacore tuna and soft shell crab sliders. There’s even the addition of an ‘Aussie’ dog, pizza and dirty fries for when only guilty pleasures will do. The refreshed cocktail menu draws upon seasonal ingredients whilst taking inspiration from flavours all around the world, with the likes of ‘Mexican not too old fashioned’ and ‘From Sweden with Love’ cocktails featuring. Don’t worry however, Grain still carries it’s ‘Grain Signature with Tailored Archie Rose and Lillet Blanc’ cocktail which has become a crowd favourite. Involved in Sydney’s culinary scene for a combined 20 years, Woolloomooloo institution China Doll, and it’s younger urban sibling, China Lane, are coming together for one night only to celebrate their love of modern Asian cooking. For one special night on Wednesday 9 May 2018, Head Chef Frank Shek (China Doll) will make his way up from the waters of Woolloomooloo Wharf to join Head Chef Kristian Vale (China Lane) in his kitchen, cooking side by side to recreate some of the restaurants most loved dishes from the past two decades. Stories of travel, influences from the different regions of Asia and a love of modern Asian cooking will be shared as host Maeve O’Meara (SBS Food Safari) chats to the chefs about their favourite memories from the kitchen over the years. Guests will enjoy a suite of entrées such as steamed NZ Abalone and Hiramasa Kingfish tarte, followed by China Doll and China Lane favourites such as Masterstock pork belly and Wok fried Alaskan crab. Accompanied by Voyager Estate Wines and Sapporo Beer for only $95+bf. Vegetarian options also available. The one-off event will be held at China Lane, tucked within the sanctuary of Angel Place. With only 75 places available, guests will have the chance to enjoy this intimate event with two of Sydney’s most ambitious and proud modern Asian chefs. The evening will run from 6.30-9.30pm. IPPUDO, the Ramen King Shigemi Kawahara’s global ramen brand, has arrived in both Melbourne and Perth. Originating in Hakata, Japan, Shigemi Kawahara opened his first store in 1985. In 1990, Shigemi Kawahara, entered the Hall of Fame for winning a Japanese ramen TV competition, “TV Champion” three consecutive times. It was in 1994 that Kawahara opened another store in the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum which increased the popularity of tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen and created a new ramen culture in Japan. Now IPPUDO has stores across Asia and the world, with two new stores in Perth and Melbourne. With a different style of dining than most traditional ramen venues, the IPPUDO menu has more than just their acclaimed ramen, including numerous other Japanese dishes designed for a sit-down restaurant experience rather than ‘slurp and go’.

Victoria’s longest-running wine festival, Winery Walkabout, will return on 9 and 10 June 2018 to showcase the best of North-East Victoria’s celebrated wine and produce. Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art has announced the appointment of chef Douglas Innes-Will as their new Executive Chef. Having been a qualified chef for over 20 years, Innes-Will’s experience is extensive, including Qualia on Hamilton Island, the two-hatted Spicers Peak Lodge, Hungry Duck and Paperbark Camp. Innes-Will is a champion of local and seasonal produce, which is perhaps a hint at what to expect on the menu when he takes over the Gallery from 10 May.
