The Victorian regional district isn’t just heavy on vineyards, but fine dining, boasting a handful of some of the country’s best restaurants. But now too quality casual fare is thankfully available on the Peninsula, thanks to the arrival of Many Little. The all-day bistro, late night bar and cellar door sits within the bustling Polperro Winery and comes courtesy of its owners Sam Coverdale and Emma Phillips. It’s the most recent addition to the Polperro Restaurant, joining a cellar door, luxury villa accommodation (with a new farmhouse accommodation option to come in 2019), a boutique yoga studio, and a designer clothing boutique. Originating from Cornish saying ‘many a little makes a mickle’, the bistro is an ode to the local community.

Polperro must be one of the most stylish outlets on the Mornington Peninsula. The various elements of the vineyard have been largely designed by lauded firm Hecker Guthrie to fit seamlessly together, with plenty of attention to detail paid by both the design team and the owners. The main Polperro site (which is home to the restaurant, cellar door and villas) is spread across 25 acres, framed by ancient Angophora trees, and boasting views of the vines below.

The latest offering from Polperro caters to 190, with seating spread across a series of beer gardens, courtyards and indoor spaces. Again the eatery has been designed by Hecker Guthrie, who found inspiration “from the diverse rural setting, with the views of the muted green landscape perfectly framing the internal palette, bringing the beauty of the surrounds inward through textural brick, terrazzo and rich timber elements,” says Hamish Guthrie. Many Little incorporates “a sense of artisan or craft in the detailing of each element – a handmade quality” which no matches the menu, which is focused on dishes that celebrate local and seasonal produce.

Many Little caters to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can start the day with a diet-friendly acai bowl or help that hangover with a slightly more decadent breakfast burger. Then there’s the bar snacks, which range from charcuterie to a three-cheese toastie and the heartier dishes; pot pie of the day and crab linguine included.

As it sits on a vineyard there will of course be plenty of wine to try as a part of the cellar door where you’ll also have the opportunity to sip on the creations of a small selection of micro producers from the district. But there will be options for non-wine drinkers; an array of local craft brews and an extensive range of cocktails have been interwoven into the Many Little menu.
