Step aside, Newtown, it’s Potts Point time to shine. The suburb has in recent years been upping its vegetarian-friendly restaurants. Here are some of the highlights.
Yellow
The only purely vegetarian spot in Potts Point, Yellow is also Sydney’s only meat-free fine diner. Suffice to say, it’s well worth seeking out. Taking inspiration from eateries in Europe that offer gourmet fare in an informal setting, the restaurant serves its colourful, prettily-plated meals in a converted 1950s art gallery space. You won’t go wrong with the Macadamia-crusted tofu or shiso seed-sprinkled eggplant.

Orwells
Probiotics, fermentation and superfoods all feature on the menu at Orwells. The wholefoods café believes in food that not only tastes good, but also makes you feel good too – bettering the health of your gut, mind and body. Think veggie-loaded bowls, toasted sandwiches and poached eggs with every kind of add-on. And while meat dishes are available here, nearly all have vego versions.

Govinda’s Cinema and Restaurant
Though not technically in Potts Point, Govinda’s in neighbouring suburb Darlinghurst is still more than worthy of a mention. For over 20 years, it’s cooked up hearty international dishes for its sprawling vegetarian and vegan buffet spread. After a plateful (or three) of dishes including cauliflower pakora, baked penne and veggie curry, roll yourself upstairs to catch a movie. The restaurant is only open for dinner.

The Silly Tart Kitchen
While The Silly Tart Kitchen does have a healthy dose of meat on its menu, the restaurant is known in particular for its veggie-friendly meals. Of note are the waffles, available even for dinner; the pumpkin hummos, which comes with flatbread; and the roasted pumpkin salad. The many hanging plants in the courtyard lend themselves to the clean eating feel of the place.
