We’re talking a seriously impressive hospitality pedigree.
Melbourne may already be home to a rather impressive Italian offering, but that’s not to say that there’s not room for one more. Tipico, Windsor’s latest resident, comes courtesy of a group of long-time hospitality professionals. At the helm is Andrea da Como (DOC, The Lucas Group, McConnell Group) and Marco Scalisi (Ti Amo, Swillhouse Group, Tokyo Tina) who have created a bar and restaurant that fuses together Italian flavours with Australian ingredients.
Head chef Domenico De Marco trained under Luke Mangan and Neil Perry, and as a result his menu celebrate classic Italian dishes with a Down Under twist. There’s twelve different pizza options to nibble on, alongside the slightly heartier pancetta, 8hr pork belly, broccoli, and chilli, and the spaghetti chitarra, vongole, mussels, and calamari,
Of course it being an Italian venue there is ample wine. Hand-selected by the owners, the wine list features Italian and Victorian wines only. Italian favourites have also shaped the cocktail selection which will showcase eight house specials (classics such as the Negroni and Spritz included).
It’s with its interiors that Tipico strays from the traditional. Stephanie Korolija of Studio Ole has styled the venue, embracing the raw and the refined of material for a rather sleek space that is befitting of its Melbourne base.
